This week was Education Week. As part of the celebrations, students participated in boot camp at lunch time. After lunch the students rotated through 3 healthy mind, healthy bodies activities. Students did a yoga session, mindfulness mediation and healthy food activities.
This week the students in 1/2 J have been working on describing, creating and continuing patterns with shapes and numbers. Students have worked on strategies to solve the pattern and building their language to be able to explain the pattern.
Over the past few weeks, the students in grade 1/2J have been completing a weekly Big Write. Today’s topic was to persuade the reader to watch your favourite movie. Students wrote many different reasons why we should watch their favourite movie.
Some of the reasons were:
the actors are funny
there are funny events
it has lots of action
What is your favourite movie and why should we watch it?
Last week we read the book Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. This book is a tale of trying to solve a problem by throwing stuff at it. In the story, the main character, Floyd gets his kite stuck up a tree. He throws up his shoe to shift it, but that gets stuck too. So he throws up his other shoe and that gets stuck, along with… a ladder, a pot of paint, the kitchen sink, an orang-utan and a whale, amongst other things!
After reading, we discuss Floyd’s mindset and how he never gave up getting his kite down. Then we decided to make our own version of Stuck to share with the whole school community at our special TEAM assembly.
Below you watch Oliver Jeffers read stuck as well as our version of the story.
This week we learnt a lot about our classmates. Students brought in from home three things that represented themselves. Some students shared their favourite toys, soveriners from their holiday adventures, photos of their favourite things and lots more.
Below are some photos of the students sharing about themselves.
